Grange Hermitage--Vintage 1970
South Australia. Penfolds
Slightly bin-soiled labels, one slightly damaged. Levels base of neck or better
The bin numbering for Grange was standardised with this vintage. Previous bottlings reflect the actual numbers of various storage "bins" in which Grange was stored in Sidney and Adelaide. A favourite of Don Ditter, who succeeded Max Schubert as chief winemaker in 1975, this wine wone a trophy, 2 gold and 1 bronze medals in 1975
Tasting note: brick red. Gamey, herbal, smoked oyster aromas. The palate is loose knit with overdeveloped smoked oyster/licquorice flavours. Fine tannins and a firm finish. A.C.
