A 3-page autograph letter, signed, from Harting, Petersfield, 10th January 1882, to Baron von Tauchnitz, acknowledging receipt of a book on English literature, congratulating the author and stating: "Alas! I find that I have contributed 79 volumes to the collection! That I ... should have wasted so many years in what is regarded as a frivilous employment! The number strikes me with awe. But still I live in hope that I shall make up the 80th before I die" (lightly faded, occasional light spotting).
