Lot Essay

The field and particularly the border design of this lot are taken from a Persian 'Vase' carpet formerly in the McMullan Collection which was gifted to the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Mass. May Beattie discusses this piece and rightfully points out the wonderful field and border combination, (May Beattie, Carpets of Central Persia, Westerham, 1976, pl.47, pp.73-74). This piece is also illustrated in Heinrich Jacoby, Sammlung orientalischer Teppiche, Berlin, 1923, pl.2.
