Details
A REMARKABLE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF FINEST QUALITY HOCK AND MOSEL, FEATURING LEGENDARY 20TH CENTURY VINTAGES FROM LEADING ESTATES
Lying in Twickenham, Middlesex (EHD)

The following lots (866 to 880) have been recently removed from the perfect storage conditions of a vaulted underground cellar. The owner, a noted connoisseur and wine enthusiast has amassed these and many other wines over an extended period always concentrating his purchasing activity on rare wines from the finest estates and vintages. It is most unusual to find a collection of such depth and quality featuring such rare German vintages as 1921, 1959 and 1971. All lots have been inspected and packed by Christie's wine department staff.

Buyers shoud note that ullages of older Germans wines are less critical than for equivalent levels in Bordeaux and Burgundy. A 5 to 7cms ullage is not unusual for wines aged 30 years or more and the shape of the traditional German bottle minimizes the effect on the wine

The combination of mainly classic Riesling from the greatest vintages produced from the most prestigious estates, results in wines that can enjoy development over a 50 year period and beyond. By comparison to other rare dessert wines of similar maturity and quality, they can be considered as being clearly 'undervalued' in the current market and also attractive in relation to the price of more recent vintages from the same properties.
