MARIE LOUISE, EMPRESS OF FRANCE (1791-1847)
Autograph letter signed ('Marie Louise') to an unidentified correspondent ('Madame'), Brussels 'ce 22 au matin' [September 1811], one page, 8vo, integral blank.
'J'ai deja recu deux fois des nouvelles de l'Empereur....qui est fort content de son shjour a Boulogne ou il donne la chasse aux Anglais'. Marie Louise, on her way to join Napoleon (at this time inspecting coastal defences in Holland) at Antwerp, writes on the morning of her arrival at Brussels. Her correspondent is presumably a lady in waiting, since she writes of her impatience to receive news of her son when she is at St Cloud. The King of Rome was born six months earlier. Napoleon had written to Marie Louise the previous day, boasting of having pursued an English cruiser for four leagues.
