Lot Essay

The Fountain Gardens at Hampton Court were laid out in front of the state apartments, as seen in the background of this watercolour. The gardens were laid out in the French Baroque style of André Le Nôtre by the English landscape designers William Talman (1650-1719) and George London (1681-1714).
