The salt of lobed oval form with two quatrefoil basins, painted with scattered sprays and flowers between blue-line-and-gilt-dash and gilt dentil rims; the butter tub moulded as a barrel, the cover with bracket finial

The three men whose marks are found on the present salt are all recorded as having worked at Sèvres as both flower painters and gilders:

Mme. Sophie Chanou Binet is recorded at Sèvres as a painter of flowers and patterns 1779-1798.
