Lot Essay

Francis George Scott (1880-1958), the former owner of the present work, was born at Hawick in Roxburghshire. Essentially a song-writer, he composed continuously all his life, publishing about half of the two hundred songs he wrote. He sought to evolve an essentially Scottish style out of disparate elements, influenced also by Moussorgsky and Debussy.
