POSSIBLY FROM THE SAME SUITE AS THE PREVIOUS LOT, OF SLIGHTLY LATER DATE, PROBABLY CIRCA 1770-1775
Each with cartouche-shaped padded back, part-padded arms and serpentine padded seat, covered in blue foliate silk damask, the channelled back surmounted by an oval patera issuing acanthus husks draped around circular paterae, the serpentine arms with scroll terminals and interlaced husk trails, above a serpentine seatrail centred by a floral spray, on leaf-headed fluted tapering legs and leaf wrapped and gadrooned pinched feet, the feet slightly reduced, one back leg later, repairs and restorations, regilt (2)

Lot Essay

This pair of chairs, while en suite with the previous pair, are constructed and carved with very slight variations, suggesting that they may have been made shortly after the first pair was made, and possibly in a centre of cabinet-making other than London.
