Lot Essay

The poems can be translated:
Imperial composition on a scene in Spring, Whatever meets the eye is new and fresh, The season and the light have already turned agreeable. Carrying containers (of presents) and holding my son, On a horse together we are the expected guests. ??? the Dark Green Mountain, The Grand Lake generates new waves and ripples', The Stone Bridge deserves its fame; It alone makes this Spring trip worthwhile. Imperial Composition on a Sence in the Autumn, In chilling autumn, travelling at a pressing pace, Crossing waters and trekking over the mountains. Does one not feel the desolation and bleakness of this all, And all for nothing but wealth and fame. (The traveller presumably is travelling to attend the official exam.) The leafy woods shed their summery tones, The sounds of streams and waterfalls with added coldness; Beyond the clouds a temple with its doors closed, In which a leisured monk is enlightened in this clarity.
