The first circular chased with chinoiserie motifs at the rim, supported on a pedestal foot, the stem in the form of a dragon, marked on rim of base; the second of tapering, the handle in the form of a dragon, the body chased and embossed with flowers, foliage and birds against a textured background, with vacant central cartouche, marked underneath

Lot Essay

For a similar handle to the cup see H. A. Crosby Forbes, Chinese Export Silver 1785 To 1885, Milton, Massachusetts, p.69, fig.40. and p. 205, fig.139 attributed to Leeching. It is possible that these handles were produced by a seperate workshop. See also op. cit. p. 230 fig. 187
