The porcelain is a fascinating reflection of Western taste and decoration of the eighteenth century, and the quantities found an indication of the endemic 'Chinamania' at that time. The consistently high quality and low cost of the porcelain was unmatchable by contemporary British companies at the time, and had the cargo been shipped successfully, it would have brought its ubiquitous element of eastern richness to many an elegant European tea table or dining room.
