A FAMILLE VERTE CISTERN, COVER AND A BASIN
KANGXI (1662-1722)
The cistern of fluted pear-shape with dragon-headed twin fish rising from the mouth rim, their tails flanking a scallop shell, the body brightly enamelled and gilt with two pheasants perched on a profusely flowering gnarled prunus branch, below a trellis band with butterfly cartouches below the rim and a wide cell-pattern band with two phoenix roundels either side of a large moulded dragon mask with circular aperture at the mouth, with later gilt-metal tap; the fluted domed cover with iron-red knopped finial, enamelled with peony; and the fluted large basin enamelled en suite to the cistern with slightly everted scalloped rim, pheasants and prunus at the centre, and four birds perched on prunus, chrysanthemum, peony and lotus branches in the well, and similar bird and flowering foliage groups on the underside, the footrim pierced with two holes for suspension
