A masterpiece is a watchmaking complication a watchmaker has to be able to construct in order to be recognised as a master watchmaker.

In the present case, the watchmaker Joseph Soudan of Geneva has chosen a calendar watch with a long duration two-train movement and unusual diurnal and nocturnal hour display and a keyless pocket chronometer with a spring detent escapement.
