Reference 6238 is the immediate predecessor of reference 6239, the first Cosmograph Daytona released by Rolex. The majority was cased in stainless steel or 18K gold.

The present watch is from a very small series made in 14K gold and exclusively reserved for the North American market. Its rarity is further enhanced by its excellent condition, the original black dial and matching 14K gold bracelet.

Different versions of the model are described and illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 278 - 290.
