Contemporary Netherlandish sprinkled calf, richly gilt tooled to a panel design, dark onlays forming lobed compartments (ties missing, a little worn, new endleaves).
A handsomely bound illustrated treatise on the breaking and training of royal cavalry horses, and the fitting of bits and bridles. The work reflects changing practices in warfare, the use of lighter weaponry, and the resulting need for new breeds and new training methods emphasizing speed and agility. The illustrations include numerous exercise step patterns, and sections of a horse's mouth showing the ideal fit for various types of bits. The rare first edition was published in Dresden in 1616. Not in Schwerdt.
