THE STRAINS OF WAR AND PROGRESS WITH THE 'GREENVILLE IDEA'. Einstein comments on three German acquainstances whom his son has presumably met in the USA: the first, 'Frau Israel' is 'a fine person ... her son died tragically in the war (aeroplane)'; another, Karman, though still 'the elegant chap', seems older and tired. Einstein's work is going well, 'because I have at last found the right form of the Greenville idea, after scribbling over mountains of paper with fruitless attempts. It will soon have reached the point when I can make a comparison with the facts. I will write further then'.
