The sides and base painted with mining scenes delicately enriched in gilding, with miners in landscapes with trees, huts, piles of ore, barrels and distant villages with churches, the cover painted after Watteau in camaïeu bleu with a lady dancing in a wooded landscape with a musician playing a pipe nearby, their faces and limbs enriched in colours, the interior of the cover painted in colours with a gentleman bowing to a lady seated in a garden by an urn, the lady opening a letter, an open box of letters beside her, the serrated hinged mount chased with waved lines (extensive wear to base, minute areas of wear to cover, front panel with slight scratch)
