Pierre Nogaret, maître in 1745.

Pierre Nogaret was arguably the most celebrated menuisier working outside the capital. After his apprentissage in Paris, he settled in Lyon in 1745 where he created seat-furniture, mainly in walnut, with characteristic bold mouldings highlighted with strong naturalistically carving. Theses canapés (lots 106-107) - of unusual scale and prominent carving relate to another, illustrated in A. Ferrier, 'Nogaret et sa manière de galber un siège Louis XV', Connaissance des Arts, June 1959, p. 117.
