The first and most notable of a family of menuisiers, Etienne Meunier had his atelier on the rue de Cléry. He is particularly noted for his preference for pittoresque floral motifs: 'Il n'utilise sûre que les fleurettes parcimonieusement disposés pour la décoration de ses sièges, d'une ligne sévère, mais toujours harmonieuse' (J. Nicolay, L'art et la manière des maîtres ébénistes Français au XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 1956, pp. 313-314).

Four fauteuils à la Reine which are apparently en suite with the Wildenstein chairs, retaining their original Beauvais tapestry covers, were sold in Paris, Ader Picard Tajan, 12 March 1986, lot 95.
