Lot Essay

This subject is first recorded as being on the looms in 1746, the earliest date at which this lot, the previous and the following two lots would have been woven as they form a set. However, there is no record of La Danse having been woven after 1753, which narrows the date of the weaving of these four tapestries to 1746 - 1753.
