The clock is a fine example of the work of the studio of Samuel Wehl, one of the most well-reputed makers of bronze clock cases in St. Petersburg in the first half of the 19th Century. Wehl's clocks were often inspired by French models and his name became synonymous with premium quality. The clocks were much sought after by the wealthy Russians and were executed in a wide range of models to suit different tastes and rooms.
