A George II oak longcase clock
Joseph Pickering, Lutterworth, No. 155. Circa 1740
The case with bracket foot supporting the plinth, rectangular trunk door with brass escutcheon, the hood with gilt-wood capped columns and later(?) pierced oak sound fret, the 12in. square dial signed Jos Pickering Lutterworth No 155 on the silvered chapter ring with lozenge half hour and half quarter hour markers, later(?) pierced blued steel hands, the lightly matted centre with seconds ring and calendar aperture with foliate engraved decoration, cherub-and-crown spandrels, the movement with five ring-turned pillars, anchor escapement, inside countwheel with external steel detent and strike on a bell
