8vo, half-title, handcolored frontispiece and 10 full-page comic plates by John Leech, other illustrations (small tear to gutter edge of frontispiece). Publisher's brown cloth, printed paper spine label (slightly rubbed), top edge gilt. In a fine full brown morocco clamshell case, spine gilt-lettered.
WITH DOUBLE INSCRIPTIONS BY FDR, 1905 AND 1943. The book was part of the library of Eleanor's father, Elliot Roosevelt (1860-1894). The first of the two inscriptions reads: "Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt 1905 from Elliot Roosevelt's Library." Almost 40 years later, late in his third term, the President and First Lady presented the book to their son, a namesake of the original owner, and FDR added another inscription: "For Elliot Roosevelt from Mother & Father March 1943."
