Lot Essay

Once a week a shipment of Theodore R. Davis' watercolor drawings were mailed to Haviland in Limoges, France, where the artistic renderings would then be transferred onto wares. This difficult task proves most impressive in the series of fowl plates, equally intriguing in their exquisite pictorial presentations as they are for Davis' choices for each particular type of fowl. See Klapthor, Appendix I for further information.
