MARK OF HAMILTON AND INCHES, EDINBURGH, 1899
Circular on rim foot, with two bracket handles, one engraved with the cypher of Edward VII the other with the cypher of Queen Alexandra, with an inscription around the foot, with a hammered finish, marked underneath, contained in a within a red leather case applied with the cypher of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra

The inscription reads '26th June 1902'

Commissioned to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII (1901-1910) and Queen Alexandra (1844-1925).

Lot Essay

The date inscribed on the quaich is the original date intended for the coronation of King Edward VII. However, shortly before the service the King was diagnosed as suffering from appendicitis and the ceremony was delayed until 9 August 1902.
