Lot Essay

The Royal Buckhounds kennels at Ascot were established by Queen Anne (1665-1714), who was a keen huntswoman.
The present picture was probably painted to celebrate the appointment of the 5th Earl of Hardwick as Master of the Buckhounds in 1874.
