Oblong 2° (266 x 365mm). 7 hand-coloured aquatint plates. Uncut in original printed grey wrappers with letterpress title on upper wrapper (restitched), later buckram portfolio titled in gilt. Provenance: J. Mott (contemporary signature on wrapper) - Fitz Eugene Dixon (bookplate on portfolio; his sale, Anderson Galleries, New York, 6 January 1937, lot 7, $675 (£135)).
A FINE COPY IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS FROM THE DIXON LIBRARY OF ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALKEN'S WORKS. 'First issue of a well drawn and finely coloured set of plates representing shooting accidents, not easily met with in perfect state' (Schwerdt). The plates each bear the publisher's name and date Feb. 1, 1816. Schwerdt I, p.23 (lacking the wrappers); Mellon/Snelgrove p.20; Tooley 53; Siltzer p.57.
