34 'années' in 49 volumes, 8° (242 x 152mm). 530 plates (including 162 in two states: uncoloured and coloured by hand), many plates on India paper mounted, the majority lithographic, but including wood and steel engravings, a few folding. Uniform contemporary French green half morocco, spines six compartments with raised bands, lettered in gilt in the second, numbered in the fourth, dated in the sixth compartments, gilt hunting-horn tool in the third compartment, top edge gilt. Provenance: Comte de Beaufort (armorial bookplate); C.F.G.R. Schwerdt (bookplate; his sale, 10 July 1939, lot 1607).
A FINE COMPLETE SET OF THIS IMPORTANT PERIODICAL: THE DE BEAUFORT/SCHWERDT COPY, HERE WITH THE PLATES IN THE FIRST 14 VOLUMES IN TWO STATES WHERE REQUIRED - according to a printed note in vol.XV (p.40), no more than 60 subscriptions for this 'de luxe' issue were ever collected.
