4 volumes, 8° (215 x 130mm). Engraved titles with stipple-engraved vignettes, 52 aquatint plates, 50 hand-coloured (including 30 by Rowlandson of 'Doctor Syntax'), one tinted, and one uncoloured. (title of volume III shaved, fore edge of vol. 2 with inkspot, occasional light spotting and offsetting.) Contemporary polished calf, flat spines gilt in compartments, red morocco labels, sprinkled edges (extremities rubbed, spines wrinkled, spine head of vol. 1 chipped).
