The Annals of Sporting and Fancy Gazette; a Magazine...containing Every Thing Worthy of Remark on Hunting, Shooting, Coursing, Racing...Cricket, Billiards, Rowing, Sailing, &c.. London: Sherwood, Neely, and Jones, 1822-28.
78 original parts constituting 13 volumes, 8° (230 x 140mm). 154 (of 155) engraved plates, many aquatinted, several folding, 53 coloured and finished by hand, one coloured and 5 plain plates duplicated, one folding printed table, numerous advertisement leaves and slips. (Lacks the plain plate of the Doncaster Gold Cup for 1825, some foxing and staining.) Original pictorial wrappers, uncut (several stained, a few short tears), in cloth folders and slipcases. Provenance: P.W. Redmond (contemporary signature on a few wrappers) -- Cortlandt F. Bishop copy (leather book-label).
A FINE SET IN PARTS FROM THE CORTLANDT BISHOP LIBRARY. 'This Magazine, published in the beginning of the 19th century, when hunting in this country was at its height -- ranks immediately after the "Sporting Magazine" and has the additional attraction of a number of coloured plates. The number for June, 1828, is of great rarity, so much so that in 1910 a copy changed hands in New York at $500', Schwerdt I, pp.32-35. The plates are after Alken, Cruikshank, Roberts, Berenger and Landseer and others. (13)
