This hall seat pattern evolved from a Roman seat pattern, with fluted legs, issued in Charles Heathcote Tatham's Etchings of Ancient Ornamental Architecture, 1799 (pl. 46).
A similar seat, with reeded ornament, was sold anonymously, Phillips, London, 24 November 1992, lot 189 and another anonymously, Christie's, London, 9 June 2005, lot 238.
