The finely carved case with broken arch cresting to the hood, with dentil mouldings below and centred by a carved foliate finial, with blind fret carving to the frieze and also around the hood within bead and reel mouldings, outset reeded columns with cast brass composite capitals, with conforming half columns flanking a trunk door with bead and reel moulded edge and border of blind fret carving, above later plinth also with fretwork border and on bracket feet, the associated 12 in. square cut-away brass dial with engraved border, eagle and urn spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with diamond half hour markers, signed Brownless Staindrop, matted centre engraved with birds and with a fruiting basket, subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture, pierced steel hands, the eight day movement with four ringed pillars, unusual waisted collets, anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell -- 91¼ in.
