Lot Essay

A similar large horse, though modelled standing foursquare rather than striding, is illustrated in Jacques Barrère, Art d'Extreme Orient, Paris, 1991, pp. 50-51; compare, also, the pair sold in these rooms, 21 September 2004, lot 197.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. C203a9 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
