Lot Essay

This manuscript is an amendment (dhayl) to the previous lot extending the use of the revenues from Thasos to the support of a school for boys that Muhammad 'Ali Pasha had established in Kavala. The addendum was drawn up on 11 Rabi' II 1232 and enacted in Istanbul through the agency of Muhammad Najib Efendi who had power of attorney for Muhammad 'Ali in the capital.

This certified copy was made on the same day by Mustafa Vasif Efendi who describes himself as keeper of the tomb of Sultan Abdulhamid I and as a pupil of Hafiz Mehmed Vasfi Efendi, scribe of the Galata Saray palace.
