Lot Essay

Muhammad Rafi' is recorded as an Indian scribe whose other work is a copy of a mathnavi called 'Valeh and Sultan' copied for the Mughal emperor Ahmad Shah (AH 1161-7/1748-54 AD).

A manuscript copied by him was sold at Sotheby's, April 1988, lot 142, catalogued as the divan of 'Ali Quli Khan and dated AH 1162/1748 AD.
