Lot Essay

Kashan bowls with bands of pierced decoration as fine as is seen here are rare. Even more surprising is to find one that has remained intact. A similar bowl, with repaired breaks, was sold in these Rooms 12 October 2004, lot 123. Both have decoration in black under the glaze in adddition to the pierced band. Please also see the following lot for another example of comparable piercing but under a white glaze.
