Lot Essay

The pattern for this form of columnar-supported 'bason stand' fitted with a hollowed 'ewer' tray featured in the 1760 Estimate Sketch Book of Gillows of London and Lancaster (L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 111).
