Accompanied by Patek Philippe Certificat d'Origine and Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1985 and its subsequent sale on 8 July 1985. Furthermore delivered with 225 Years Beyer brochure and the original letter from Mr. Theodore Beyer dated 10 May 1985 to important clients of the firm inviting them to subscribe to the limited series.

Production of reference 3940 was launched in 1985. The present watch is number 19 from a limited series of only 25 examples of this reference made with champagne dial to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the renowned Beyer Chronometrie in 1985. The first example bearing movement no. 770'001 was dedicated to Theodore Beyer on this occasion and is now in the prestigious 'Clock and Watch Museum Beyer Zurich'. It is also illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 294.
Number 6 of this series was the personal watch of Theodore Beyer who represented the sixth generation of the Beyer family. It is now in the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva and exhibited in a special section reserved for watches formerly the property either of friends of Mr. Philippe Stern or other significant personalities.

Since its foundation in 1760, the prestigious firm has always been passed down from father to son, each a fully trained watchmaker. Beyer Chronometrie was the first shop in Switzerland specializing exclusively in watches, clocks and jewellery. The firm is currently managed by René Beyer who represents the seventh generation of the Beyer family.
The company also owns the renowned Clock and Watch Museum Beyer Zürich, one of the world's most important horological collections. It comprises some 500 pieces dating from 1400 BC to the present day.
