Lot Essay

Two other 17th Century versions are recorded in P. Verbraeken, Joachim Beuckelaer. Het markt- en keukenstuk in de Nederlanden 1550-1650, Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Ghent, 12 December 1986-8 March 1987, p. 140, no. 17, illustrated and fig. 1. Mr. Verbraeken notes that these compositions and therefore the present lot are most likely based on an unknown original by Joachim Beuckelaer.
