A GERMAN INFANTRY MORION (BIRNHELM)
circa 1580-90
Of one-piece construction, rough from the hammer, with pointed skull rising to a residual stalk, encircled at the base by lining rivets on decorated brass rossette washers, narrow down-turned brim extending to slightly up-turned points, turned edge, iron plume-holder, pendant armoured leather cheek-pieces tied by early fabric cords in the Bavarian State colours, fabric lining on a leather band (almost certainly the original), and retaining its original blackened arsenal finish.
