A CONTINENTAL CASED PAIR OF PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOLS
circa 1840
With octagonal sighted twist barrels with microgroove rifled bore, case-hardened breeches and breech tangs numbered 1 & 2, engraved case-hardened back-action locks, figured maple half-stocks (each with small cracks), fore-ends with carved scallop terminals, the butts cut with scale pattern grips, oval ebony pommels with German silver traps incorporating hinged scallopped covers, engraved case-hardened spurred trigger-guards, set triggers, and some original finish: in original lined and fitted case veneered in mahagony, the lid with vacant escutcheon and bound in brass at the corners, and retaining almost all of its original accessories, including a ten-cavity gang mould and mainspring-clamp.
