AN UNUSUAL GERMAN WHEEL-LOCK HOLSTER PISTOL
circa 1630-40
With slightly swamped octagonal barrel, plain flat lock, external wheel retained by a chiselled iron bracket in the French taste, a grotesque devoured by a fish (pan-cover replaced), carved fruitwood full stock, voluted pommel formed with a very short lobed comb and the back flattened for an iron plate, plain iron mounts, and iron-tipped wooden ramrod.
