A SCOTTISH ALL-STEEL FLINTLOCK BELT PISTOL BY JOHN MURDOCH
Third quarter of the 18th Century
With four-stage barrel with flared octagonal muzzle, fluted breech and engraved with scrollwork of characteristic pattern, engraved bevelled lock signed 'Jo: Murdoch', profusely engraved stock en suite with the barrel, inlaid on the underside with three chased narrow silver panels and along the spine of the butt with interlaced silver scrollwork, an escutcheon engraved with the owner's crest on both sides, silver pricker and button trigger each pricked and engraved with an expanded flowerhead, engraved steel belt hook with pierced engraved finial, and original turned steel ramrod (small areas of light pitting).
