A FRENCH SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK NAVAL OFFICER'S PISTOL BY CASSAIGNARD À NANTES
Rennes (Saint-Malo) silver marks for 1784-91
With brass barrel formed in two stages with moulded girdle and muzzle, finely cut with a trophy-of-arms in low relief on a punched ground within a frame of rococo ornament, silver fore-sight, engraved iron barrel tang, signed brass lock with bevelled edges and engraved with a further trophy on the tail, pierced cock, carved moulded figured walnut full stock, full silver mounts cast in relief (previously parcel-gilt), decorated with scrollwork and with trophies both of the chase and of war, and original ramrod.
