Atlas with 13 photogravures, 53 double-page lithographed plates, most in colour, and one coloured map of the environs of Paris, text with engraved portrait frontispiece of Eiffel and numerous in-text illustrations. (Some pale dampstaining to frontispiece and first few leaves in vol. 1). Original dark green half morocco (some small repairs to the spine end, minor rubbing). Provenance: Eiffel's inscription in ink on the half-title (lightly faded).

LIMITED EDITION, ONE OF 500 SETS OF THE FIRST EDITION of one of the earliest complete monograph on a modern building. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY EIFFEL: 'Hommage de G. Eiffel.' It has served as the standard for all subsequent studies on the architecture of 19th-century metal structures. In 1900, the Eiffel Tower was still the tallest structure in the world. RARE: this superb work, published at the author's expense, was never issued commercially but given by Eiffel to public libraries, universities, French and foreign scientific societies, and important contemporaries.
