William Barraud was a pupil of the animal painter Abraham Cooper; his younger brother, Henry Barraud, trained with the landscape painter J.J. Middleton. William and Henry's collabotative works seem to stem from the mid-1830s. It has been suggested that this collaboration may have been inspired by William's reluctance to paint figures. However, the exact nature of their collaboration is unknown.
