A LOUIS-PHILIPPE TWO-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH A MICROMOSAIC
by Alexandre-Raoul Morel (fl. 1833-1850), marked, with the French standard mark for gold 1838-1919, the flange struck with inventory number 789, the micromosaic Roman, circa 1800/1820
Rectangular box with rounded corners and baluster sides, the cover centred by an oval micromosaic depicting a seated spaniel bitch nursing her puppy in a landscape, within a gold mount cast with flowers and foliage, the matted gold cover cast with four anthemion spandrels in the corners with one at either end and surrounded by foliate scrolls, plain gold rim with a border of applied flowers and foliage, the sides and base engraved with scrolling foliage on an engine-turned ground, the base further engraved with trelliswork and shells at the corners
