A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER WINE-COOLERS
MARK OF JOSEPH ANGELL, LONDON, 1816
Vase shaped and the lower part of the bodies cast and chased with acanthus foliage, with two scroll handles connected to the body with masks, the rim with a band of scroll and flower motifs on a textured ground, with a detachable collar and liner, on conforming foot, engraved with a coat-of-arms and an inscription, marked near rim, on collar bezel, on side of liner an and on edge of liner support
10½ in. (26.5 cm.) high and smaller
189 oz. (5,883 gr.)
The arms are those of Wilks impaling another, for Colonel Mark Wilks (c.1760-1831).

The inscription reads: 'Presented by the Inhabitants of St Helena to COLONEL MARK WILKS late GOVERNOR of that ISLAND as a Memorial of their Esteem, Respect, & Gratitude 1816' (2)
