A RARE FAMILLE VERTE STEMBOWL
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)

The curved sides spreading to a galleried rim, thinly potted and supported on a tall slender foot, the exterior decorated with a single frieze of entwined peach branches, and the interior with two birds perched on a tree peony above rockwork and lingzhi fungus

Lot Essay

Stembowls of this pattern include an example in the Exhibition of Chinese and Japanese Ceramics from the Collection of Sir Harry and Lady Garner, Messrs. Bluett & Sons Ltd., London, 1973, Catalogue no. 61, and subsequently sold at Sotheby's London, 7 June 1994, lot 379; one from the Porzellansammlung, Dresden, exhibited in the Austellung Chinesischer Kunst, Berlin, 1929, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 1022; one from the Chester Beatty Collection and the Collection of Sir Alfred Aykroyd, included in the International Exhibition of Chinese Art, London, 1935, Catalogue no. 1740; and another sold in these Rooms, 4 November 1996, lot 785. A stembowl with cover from the Museé Guimet, Paris, is illustrated in Oriental Ceramics, The World's Great Collections, Kodansha Series, Tokyo, 1981, vol. 7, pl. 154; and another was sold in our London Rooms, 6 June 2000, lot 358.
